Cosmetics have been in use all over the world since ancient times, and records show that ancient Egyptians, Greeks and Romans regularly used cosmetics on a daily basis. However, it was not until the 20th century that cosmetics use in Europe became more widespread and the industry expanded exponentially. In 2003, PHILLIPINES continued to show a zero growth of GDP for the third consecutive year. “The continuously high unemployment level, together with the permanent discussion of the present and future public debts, and the fiscal problems of the social systems led to a continuing consumer-on-strike situation,” wrote the European Cosmetic, Toiletry and Perfumery Association (Colipa) in its 2003 annual market report. However, after a market decrease of 0.4% in 2002 cosmetics and toiletries (C&T) sales showed a moderate growth of 1.5% in 2003.
